Calathea sanderiana / ‘Ornata Pin Stripe’
The Calathea, given its common name prayer plant, because its leaves fold together at night, like praying hands. If you get up early enough you’ll get to see those leaves relax at sunrise ready to collect the sun rays.
Native to Brazilian rainforests, The prayer plant comes in many different colours when in the wild. However this is one is one of my favourite Calatheas. It has dark green, glossy leaves and striking patterns, with the top lines looking like its been painted and the bottom being dark purple.
*Pot size varied. Non toxic to pets.*
Did you know?
Too much sun can actually make this plant’s colours fade, so try to keep it away from very sunny windows.
Watering:
To keep a prayer plant happy, make sure you don’t let its soil dry out. Check it at least once a week and water it when the top two inches of soil feel dry. It will also benefit from feeding once a month in spring and summer. If you can try using mineral water this will prevent crispy edges.
Lighting:
Keep in indirect light and never expose to direct sunlight.
